Snow, a Chinese-Canadian composer and pianist from Burnaby, is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in composition at UBC. Passionate about integrating visual arts and music, she specializes in creating graphic scores and entirely art-based compositions. Beyond visual arts, Snow explores diverse forms, creating works for interactive dance, electroacoustic music, live instruments, and visual design. She is particularly interested in the intercultural fusion of Chinese traditional and Western instruments, and collaborated with VICO's wind quintet in summer 2023. Currently, Snow is working with the Allegra Chamber Orchestra, with her upcoming piece set to premiere in June 2024.

Snow is a Chinese-Canadian composer from Burnaby pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in composition at the University of British Columbia. As a composer, pianist, and visual arts enthusiast, Snow focuses on integrating visual arts and music, particularly through graphic scores and art-based compositions. She explores combining performing arts with other forms, creating works for interactive music with dance, graphic design, lighting, and live processed instruments.

 

Snow’s work emphasizes sound and its combinations, aiming to discover subtle sounds from instruments or unconventional items, creating unique sound worlds depicting her view of the world. Her memorable mentors include Rita Ueda, Jennifer Butler, Dorothy Chang, Bob Pritchard, and Keith Hamel.

 

She is interested in combining Chinese traditional instruments with Western ones and collaborated with the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra’s wind quintet in summer 2023. Recently, she collaborated with the UBC Contemporary Players Ensemble and premiered at the West Coast Composer Symposium. Under Rita Ueda's mentorship, her piece “Transformation” premiered in June 2024. In August 2024, she will do a composer residency at Banff Centre and premiere a new piece at the Gather Listen Hear Festival.
